RAGAN KIMBRELL
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - Ragan Kimbrell passed on December 14, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and a mercifully brief battle with cancer. Her nieces were blessed to be with her holding her hand when she passed peacefully.
Born in Greenville, a Delta debutante and graduate of Greenville High School, Ragan moved to New Orleans in 1966 to attend Newcombe College and knew NOLA was where she wanted to stay. After receiving a graduate degree from Tulane’s School of Social Work, she pursued her career with the Orleans Parish school system, directing a day treatment program for children and adolescents. In 1979, she met Charlene Coco, who became her spouse and life partner. Together they dedicated years restoring the architectural beauty of their home, excavating and cultivating a beautiful garden with koi pond, and running their Mentone Bed and Breakfast, through which they made lifelong friends. Ragan was an accomplished pianist and art aficionado. Writing checks sometimes for just $25 each month to local artists and galleries, she built a beautiful art collection that reflected her love of the city and its culture. To family, friends and neighbors, Ragan was known for her Southern grace, expansive vocabulary, quick wit, laughter, and fierce protection of everyone she loved. How she loved to people watch and declare, Laissez les bons temps rouler!
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Charlene Coco. Ragan is survived by her elder brother, Bill Kimbrell (Pat) of Lexington Kentucky, nieces LeVan Kimbrell McLain (Pete) of Charlotte North Carolina and Trisha Kimbrell Meloncon (Todd) of Round Rock Texas, her precious fur babies, Gracie Louise and Noah, cousins, and many of her spouse’s family.
Please consider a gift to The Alzheimer’s Foundation in her memory.
