William Jackie Thompson—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pharmacist, community servant, and cherished friend—passed away peacefully at his home in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, on May 17, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on April 16, 1948, in Lake Village, Arkansas, Jackie lived a life rich in love, integrity, happiness, laughter, and a commitment to serving others. His early years were spent in Greenwood, where he famously rode a Ducati to kindergarten—a true testament to the unique spirit of the Delta. His family later settled in Greenville, where he graduated from Greenville High School. A proud Delta native, Jackie maintained strong friendships from his formative years that lasted throughout his life.

Jackie pursued higher education at Delta State University, Mississippi Delta Community College, and ultimately the University of Mississippi, where he earned his pharmacy degree, inspired by the unwavering support of his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Nancy. Pharmacy became both his vocation and his ministry.

After graduation, Jackie and Nancy made their home in Hazlehurst, where for over five decades, he devoted himself to the community. As the owner of Allred’s Pharmacy and Gifts, he was more than a pharmacist; he was a trusted confidant and a compassionate presence for generations of families. Known affectionately as "Dr. Jackie," he became a vital adviser and caregiver, living his life as an act of service without ever asking for anything in return. His commitment extended beyond the pharmacy, as he dedicated over 20 years to the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy, serving as a voice of compassion and integrity in a profession he held dear.

Jackie is survived by his wife, Nicole Donald, and his children: Jennifer Thompson Walker (Brandt), AliceClaire Thompson Scott (Jason), and stepdaughter Lauren Sandling Short (Joseph). He was a proud and loving grandfather to MaryHampton Walker, Thompson Christopher Scott, Jackson Willingham Scott, Zelda James Short, and Vera Wright Short.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Willingham Thompson, and his parents, Jean Hampton Thompson and William Frank Thompson.

Jackie found joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether it was playing golf with friends, sharing laughter-filled gatherings with family, cheering on his beloved Ole Miss Rebels on spirited Saturdays, or engaging in quiet conversations with those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for his joyful spirit, servant's heart, infectious laughter, and the unique ability to make everyone feel like family.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the team at Arden Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during Jackie’s final days.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Hazlehurst, followed by a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. at Hazlehurst Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jackson Academy, honoring Jackie’s enduring belief in the power of education and the lasting impact the school has had on his family, particularly his grandchildren MaryHampton Walker, Thompson Scott, and Jack Willingham Scott.
